Once upon a time, having been seduced

by the amazing productions being showcased on Wardrobe Refashion, I went out and

bought myself a sewing machine.

I called it a Christmas Present to myself

(never mind that it was still only November).

Now, let’s be real.

I don’t sew. I don’t know how. I never had a class, and I don’t understand about 98% of what all the dials and switches do on this bargain Janome I got for £99. That being said, my friend said something once that stayed in my mind. She is an AMAZING seamstress and even eeks out a living by using her mad skillz.  And she used the term ‘renegade seamstress.’

I liked that. Who needs lessons when you have ideas?

Today was totally wet, totally windy, and I totally abandoned my plans to venture outside to get crafty.  A few weeks ago, I went to a fabric store in town and found these little squares of mixed fabric being sold for £2 each. You got 4 squares of complimentary colours and you could use them for….something.  I chose pillow cases.

I am SUPER happy with the blue union jack one I did.

I didn’t follow any pattern or even measure anything.  Just free hand sewing it on the machine.

I also tried to refashion Stu’s old jumper into a cardigan for me, but the large, baggy man-arms made it look too frumpy for me. So fail. Maybe if I did actually have some sewing classes, I would have know how to take in the arms and smarten up the collar, but maybe that’s for another time.
